Functional Fitness is not a Trend!

Functional Fitness is not a trend; it is not fad or the latest exercise boom. It is simply a way of analyzing your fitness level as well as your lifestyle in order to create a lifetime goal-driven movement program. Goals may range from losing some weight to comprehensive post-rehabilitation from an injury to building muscle.

Losing weight is drastically easier because the basis of functional exercise starts in higher quality movements that you learn to use everyday. The better you move, the more likely it is that you will move and burn more fuel naturally. Adding muscle is easier with functional exercises. This occurs due to the increased time a muscle is under tension and volume of total work increases drastically. Your body gets a higher sense of demand to build muscle and shed body fat. Whether you are an elite athlete or have never worked out before, functional exercise will improve your posture, improve your overall usable strength and help you lose unnecessary body fat.

How does it start? The first training session entails a comprehensive medical history and an interview with our trained staff. Our goal is to uncover information about you that gets to the bottom line of your real health and fitness issues and concerns. It is essential that the trainer / massage therapist / instructor not only understand your goals but find out if there are mechanical issues keeping you from attaining them. At this point, we start an evolving exercise program that challenges the mind as well as the body. The most frequent client quote at Functional Fitness is "I didn't know that about my body".

Many people have come to Sam and stated, "My knees just can't take running / skiing / hiking / cycling anymore." Upon analysis Sam finds bad motor patterns or poor muscular balance that would lead to pain. Correction of the poor patterns and imbalances leads to pain-free participation in their sport of choice once again.

It is important to know that age has nothing to do with it. Sam has done functional analysis and created post-rehabilitative exercise programs for young children to 90 year olds. Sam states, "I just never give up! There is always a pattern that makes the body work better."

Functional Fitness is totally portable! You get to take these new strategies for better movement with you anywhere you go. Whether we are designing a program to do in the privacy of your own home (with little of no equipment) or coming in 4 days per week to work with one of our instructors, you will feel real life results.
