Owner and Personal Trainer
Gaining new confidence in your own healthy biomechanics is one of the things you get from working with Sam. His analysis is unique. Sam puts three decades of thought into your training. He has over 40,000 hours of personal training experience.
Sam has held eighteen national certifications in personal training and nutrition and maintains only the best, including the National Academy of Sports Medicine, ACPT (Advanced Certified Personal Trainer) and National Fitness Therapy Association, Accredited Fitness Therapist. He has been CPR and First Aid Certified for more than 15 years. He is the father of four and revels in a playful embrace of life.
More than an avid exercise enthusiast, Sam has broken the American power lifting record three times. In winning multiple Colorado power lifting championships, he has broken state records in many categories as well. He competes in the Lifetime Drug Free category (sometimes called PURE), and in many competitions Sam uses no supportive equipment.
In order to share his views on fitness and sport, Sam has donated his time to schools and government agencies, teaming with those who seek to recharge some of the policies regarding physical education for our young people. He served on the board of directors of the Colorado Governor's Council for Physical Fitness, a strictly volunteer group that promotes physical activity and exercise programs and sponsors youth events throughout the state.
Although you may hear the term “Functional Fitness” used elsewhere, it was Sam who originated the analysis system behind it. He has discovered that by using everyday life movements, he and his trainers can analyze skeletal position, muscular discrepancies and movement patterns to determine what is moving properly and improperly. Then he creates exercise programs that truly change the way you move and set you on the path to pain-free fitness. Often, movement problems are the root cause of many physical and emotional ailments. He gets to the source of the problem, not just the symptom. And he does it in the buoyant atmosphere of teamwork and camaraderie that is the community spirit of Functional Fitness.

I have been a trainer for over seven years now, and in that period of time I've also studied anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and coaching. My philosophy of functional training uses full body movement to incorporate multiple muscle groups which challenge the whole neuro-muscular system. This very complex training brings to life the body as a whole. The exercises we do in the gym translates to a person's life outside of the gym, and helps my clients function better and more optimally when they're not thinking about training - whether at work, at their desk, moving things around, cleaning up - this type of training makes each movement so much more effective. In the demanding environments of the modern workplace the balance of wellness, personal and professional endeavors are more important than ever. I feel so fortunate to be able to help people improve their wellness. Click here to see a video about me.

Mind/Body Coaching and Personal Training
Never before has science understood so exactly and specifically how the mind affects the body and what to do about it. The latest advances in neuroscience, epigenetics and biology prove that the content of our mind radically impacts:
- Our physical fitness and body composition
- Our genetic expression
- Our basic internal chemistry (reductive/oxidative - acidic/alkaline)
- Our enzyme and hormonal levels
- The architecture, neurochemistry, and function of our brain
- Our digestion, organ function, and total body health
- Our ability to overcome stress, pathogens, and environmental pollutants
Simple and practical techniques exist that can allow any individual to harness the power of their mind to increase balance in their body and radically improve their health.
Evan Manée is helping young and old direct the power of their mind to optimize their bodies and live extraordinary lives. Matt came to Functional Fitness after graduating from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a degree in Biology, Psychology, and Political Science. Functional Fitness is the beginning of his career as a personal trainer, but his interest in fitness started several years ago in the Crossfit and Olympic weightlifting circuit. It was in these formats where he noticed how exercise can be rewarding, but also damaging to the human body. Through his education in Biology he gained an unique insight into the molecular and anatomical aspects of exercise.
In addition, through a background in psychology, Matt has also seen the plethora of benefits that exercise provides the human mind. It is these experiences that Matt brings into every session. This way each individual can improve their body and mind correctly and safely. The benefits of exercise can come in time and without harm.
